Meet Kelly

As an elementary teacher who was determined to help every student succeed to his highest potential, I often found myself frustrated. If only, I told myself, I could get consistent one on one time with that student, I know I could help him achieve success. Tutoring enables me to do just that. I am able to identify the student’s specific needs and target his particular area of weakness. Through repetition, encouragement, and utilizing high yielding strategies, I am able to help students realize their capabilities.

My Story

For the past three decades, my life has been dedicated to advocating for students, whether within the confines of a classroom or as a tutor outside the school's boundaries. Education has remained my unwavering passion throughout this journey. Although I hold certification to teach grades K-8, my true expertise lies in the primary grades.

Throughout the years, I've taken on the roles of both a language arts and math teacher, implementing Marzano's Researched Based Instructional Strategies to enhance the learning experience. My teaching journey has exposed me to various curricula, including Expeditionary Learning Language Arts and Eureka Math. Notably, my 3rd-grade students achieved some of the highest TCAP scores in reading and writing in the entire state of Tennessee.

I firmly believe in the power of formative assessments as a cornerstone of student success. These assessments provide students with the invaluable opportunity to take risks, learn from their mistakes, and grow, all without the anxiety of unfavorable grades looming over them. As a Formative Assessment trainer for my school, I have conducted numerous teacher workshops, sharing insights into this instructional strategy.

In 2013, I was honored by my colleagues with the title of "Teacher of the Year." This recognition both humbled me and ignited a professional fire within me, driving me to continuously strive for growth and improvement in my role as an educator.

Even in retirement, my passion for education burns brightly. I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to acquire new strategies through the Orton-Gillingham approach, a method renowned for its multi-sensory phonics techniques in remedial reading instruction.

Perhaps my greatest strength as an educator is my ability to uplift and encourage. I will serve as your child's most fervent cheerleader, ensuring they know that they have an unwavering advocate in their corner, supporting and rooting for them every step of the way.

How We Met

"Kelly was a godsend when our son was struggling in third grade and feeling disheartened about school. Through her advocacy, compassion, and willingness to assist him despite his learning differences, she became a significant influence in our lives, and we have cherished our friendship ever since."
